Porsche 977 Carrera

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

A new Porsche 911 is always intriguing because it’s interesting to see how after more than 40 years of development the Porsche team still manages to bring changes and advancements to this iconic model.

The new 997 blends the silky contemporary appearance of the 996 series with the fashionable retro styling of the older 911′s. The front end is finished with round lamps and separate parking/fog/indicator lights. This change, combined with wider hips echoes the last of the air-cooled 911′s, the 993. Other changes in the body shell are the new door handles, wing mirrors and the smart cut of the rear wings into the bumper/lights.

Even if the 997 looks a great deal like the previous model, the 996, the new car is actually 38mm wider which makes for a more aggressive appearance. With each new model introduced, Porsche has aimed to lessen the drag co-efficient helping the 911 slide through the air more effectively thereby increasing performance. The same thing has been achieved with the new car, and if we compare the 993 Cd of 0.34 to the 997`s 0.28, we can perceive how far the aerodynamic game has progressed. The latest body shell and rear wing combine with new under body paneling to also offer improved levels of down force for this latest generation of Porsche’s best.

The latest Porsche model has the best handling 911 ever. Improving a car’s firmness helps ensure that the suspension can work more effectively and although not making such a quantum leap as the team did with the 996, Porsche enhanced torsional rigidity by 8% and added as much as 40% more strength.

For their new model car, Porsche wanted to enhance crash safety provisions so they added two new air bags, which are located in the side of each front seat back-rest and are calculated to protect the thorax. They also kept the earlier two front and two side airbags, which means that now there are six air bags in total. For the same reason, that is crash safety, the reinforced body shell features additional protection such as a more widespread use of very high strength steel.

The most recent model is also 50 kg heavier than the 996. The reason is that current crash safety regulations kind of force vehicle manufacturers to produce new cars of increased weight, despite the widespread use of a large range of weight saving measures, such as an aluminum bonnet.

Apart from the crash safety advancements, much of the additional weight can be attributed to the higher standard specifications of the new cars. The power to weight ratio is similar with the latest car offering 233 bhp per tonne against it’s predecessors 238 but the new model’s superior aerodynamics must help it achieve Porsche’s claimed performance figures, which are identical to those of the 996.

Sailing Vacations In The Caribbean

Sunday, October 17th, 2010

There are lots of destinations for people interested in sailing and if you are tired of the Virgin Islands then try the rest of the Caribbean.

The Caribbean islands are part of an island chain covering 2,500 miles. Given the enormous distance, it is no wonder that tourists spend weeks out there in order to get pleasure from the magnificence that it has to offer.

Just like in the Virgin Islands, there are loads of charter companies you can go to. for various hobbies. These firms come in different sizes, but perhaps the best is the yacht charter.

When you charter a yacht, besides the yacht, the other features and benefits that come with it include meals, separate guest rooms, a galley, toilet and shower.

Since you are the paying guest aboard the yacht, you can customize the menu by telling the crew before the voyage what you want to eat. You can help out by buying the provisions yourself, having someone from the crew do it for an additional fee or choose a set menu from one of their pre-composed packages.

Since most of the islands in the Caribbean are small and uninhabited, you are certain to explore places that not many have seen. But if you can’t afford to rent a chartered yacht, don’t worry because you can probably get one that will cost as little as $50 if you are able to book a pre-arranged trip with several other guests to split the cost.

One thing you have to be ready for during you sailing vacation is the possibility of a storm. These normally occurs during the months from June to November. If you are not sure that this is the best time, book the trip on another date.

But if you are adamant about going on your dates, there are some online tools you can utilize to check if the area you will be sailing in has ever been hit by a storm before.

The other option is to plan your itinerary to the Caribbean islands further south because they are less likely to be affected by a hurricane. These places include the islands of Aruba, Barbados, Bonaire, Curacao, and Turks and Caicos.

If you like the idea of going sailing around the Caribbean there are ample opportunities. You could do far worse than start in St Croix in the US Virgin Islands and travel south or west. If you start in St Croix, which the pirates of old used to call Santa Cruz, you will not need a passpert and can take your pets with you, but you will need more ID if you call into foreign islands.

Owen Jones, the writer of this article, writes on many subjects, but is currently involved with St Croix Hotels. If you are interested in St Croix Vacation Rentals in the US Virgin Islands, please click through to our site.

Overview Of The Infamous Suunto Elementum Ventus Survival Watch.

Sunday, October 17th, 2010

Compared to Swiss design, the Finnish have made an incredibly competing watch. The case of the Suunto Elementum Ventus is world class with a “carved not stamped” feel to it. I appreciate the sapphire crystal, but I am disappointed that it is nor glare-proofed nor domed. Therefore in a pinch, you should use it as a mirror to fix your hair.

The pushers perform properly, even though the much lauded “revolving A pusher” would seem just a little less than “swiss rugged” in my experience.

The display…. alright, after many years of Swiss timepieces that flawlessly performed legible negative displays, I can’t “get it” with this particular watch. Why can’t Suunto create a negative display with enough clearness and contrast to compete with the likes of a Breitling, TAG or RADO? Through my limited understanding of LCD technologies, the main difference between a positive and a negative display is the polarizing filter. There isn’t much else with it. So I am puzzled why this is so hard to read.

I am satisfied with the function of the watch. Suunto seems to have sought to make this watch as easy as possible! You’ll find essentially four modes. The main time display that may show either barometric pressure numerically or, in the same place, display the dat. The barometric log, that is utilized by revolving the A pusher counter clockwise and scrolls the baro chart by hour increment. The compass, available via the C pusher in all modes with the exception of when the “race timer” is working; as well as the race timer itself.

The count down chronograph is rather… awkward. It resets to zero by holding the C pusher after it has been halted by hitting the A pusher. As soon as zeroed, it takes on 5 minutes as the start time, even though it is possible to rotate the A pusher to modify this by minute steps. If set to zero, it functions like a modest chronograph. Why modest? It counts 10ths of seconds until 1 minute, and then switches to minutes and seconds, after which to minutes only. As for the last mode, no one is able to detect it is still working without catching a digit change. Unlike the “regular” convention of flashing the “:” to show a going chronograph, the “:” is static. Additionally unlucky is the fact that, when ended, the timepiece will never show the greater precise readings. Compare this to an Aerospace Watch, where once the chronograph is ceased, the watch alternates in between displaying the minutes and the seconds, so that you can at least access the degree of precision stored in the watch.

Mario Bosemon is a long time watch collector and knows few things about them, in particular the outside/sport ones. So his opnion on Suunto Elementum and especially his favorite Suunto Elementum Ventus may be considered before purchasing one. To find out more: http://suuntoelementum.com/

How To Manage A Wedding Car Company

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Have you ever thought about setting up a wedding car company? Although it can be demanding, because you do not want to let anybody down on their big day, it is also fascinating and exciting.

Some of the benefits are that you get to own good-looking vehicles – maybe a Rolls Royce or a Bentley and they are tax-deductible; you meet new people under happy circumstances and you are in the position to help them have a wonderful wedding day.

It is a very demanding business, because you always have to bear in mind the desires of your clients and think about how you can fulfill and expand their’ wishes. That is hard enough, but you also have to remain viable. I hope that the following tips will be useful.

1] Take care of the conditions under which you keep your vehicles. If you can afford to garage them, they will not collect dust and bird droppings so the paintwork will look better for longer. Do not have a gravel drive, because of possible scratching to the coachwork of the cars.

2] Get one or two really lovely vehicles. You will need to do a bit of investigation to find out what couples in your area like, but as a rule of thumb a Rolls Royce or a Bentley are sure bets. Or maybe a stretch limousine. Old cars go down well too. Build up your fleet of cars gradually but increasingly. Offer your clients as much choice as you can reasonably afford to do.

Many marriage couples will not only require the wedding car, but also vehicles for the guests. Many of them want limousines or old vehicles for their wedding day. But a lot of other cars are required for the guests. Be adaptable and agree to decorate the cars according to the couple’s wishes with flowers and ribbons.

2] Hire good, compassionate personnel. A fully trained chauffeur is a necessity, but a military style driver can add to your firm’s image.

3] It is a good idea to offer various packages or elements that a couple can use to build a package. So, you could offer transport from the bride’s house to the church as one element. From the church to the restaurant as another element and from there to the chosen hotel, the airport or the railway station, as another element.

4] Make certain that your clients know exactly how long they have exclusive use of the vehicles for. This is useful for them, so that they know exactly how long they have to take photos, eat or chat.

Transportation plays a huge and fundamental part in any wedding day celebrations. In fact, poorly timed or scruffy transportation can ruin a wedding day. If you let that happen, your firm’s standing will suffer dreadfully, especially in a town or village. You will need a high sense of responsibility; reliable, well-trained, sensitive staff and high quality cars that look the part. White wedding vehicles are popular, but other colours are acceptable, especially for the guests.

Wedding Cakes

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

Nearly every family or social event involves the eating of food and the imbibing or drinks in the celebration. Consider Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, and weddings. In this article, I would like to talk about that centre piece of the wedding reception: the wedding cake.

The guests come to eat, drink and be merry and the bride’s parents always put a great deal of work into the organization of the wedding party. The wedding cake is the central point of the top table and the whole reception in general. The wedding cake has traditional importance and it is usually thought bad luck not to have a piece of the wedding cake.

There are specific rules for the timing of the cutting of the wedding cake that have become part of tradition. For example, if the wedding reception takes place at lunch or dinner, it is traditional to cut the wedding cake just before the sweet is served.

However, if the reception is held in the late afternoon or early evening, the cake is served as soon as the guests arrive. In some traditions the bride and groom cut and eat the first slice together as a symbol of their vows to love, honour and obey each other. The rest of the cake is usually cut by one of the assistants, like the maid of honour or a family member.

It can be quite hard to select the wedding cake. Traditionally, people opt for a white cake with white icing for weddings, however these days, people are becoming more adventurous and are choosing more exotic flavours and colours.

Some couples choose to have a wedding cake which has different flavours on each layer. While white icing is still the overwhelming favourite, people do order other colours like pink and yellow. Chocolate and mocha are also popular. These days you can have what you like. It is your day, after all.

Everyone likes the wedding reception. It is the favourite part of the wedding ceremony and everyone looks forward to seeing the cake cut and sharing it with the bride and groom.

If you are thinking about becoming a cake decorator, you have a couple of options to go about it. You could buy a book or a course or get a video in order to teach yourself how to decorate cakes from the simple to the elaborate. You could also go to a night school class to learn the art or cake decoration.

Without a doubt, the very best way to learn cake decorating is to take a course. DVD’s, videos, and books are all well and good, but you cannot talk to them or ask questions. If you take a class for three months or more you will learn more and get a deeper understanding of the art of cake decoration. You will learn how to put real feeling into the decoration of the cake and you will be able to translate the wedding couple’s dreams into a cake that you and they can be proud of.

Extra-ordinary Uses For The Indoor Bug Zapper

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

I don’t know whether you have ever used a handheld, indoor bug zapper, but I think that they are awe-inspiring. I’m talking about the handheld kind that looks like a child?s plastic, toy tennis racquet. They come in two basic forms. I rather the rechargeable bug zapper, because batteries end up up costing more than the indoor bug zapper itself, although you could always buy rechargeable batteries, but then they are expensive as well.

My wife and I like to spend time in the garden. We meet friends there, have a meal there and generally laze about outdoors, as do most people around here, when they are not working. Besides, it’s much cooler outside than inside. A comfy chair, a few snacks, a cool drink and a book or a friend and life does not get much better. In fact, it?s idyllic.

That is until about six or seven o’clock when the first wave of mosquitoes have judged that the sun’s rays have lost enough strength that they will not evaporate and they come out searching for blood. Some evenings are worse than others, of course. Usually, the mosquitoes are pretty tolerable, especially seeing as I have discovered the indoor bug zapper. (I don’t know why it is referred to as an ?indoor bug zapper?, it is just as effective outdoors as in).

It’s not that I like to slaughter things, but I find it hard to have compassion for mosquitoes. Nevertheless, I do get a certain amount of enjoyment from seeing and hearing mosquitoes and other bugs literally blow up with a flash and a spark as they come into connection with the electric and ground wires of the indoor bug zapper. These electric bug zappers can pack quite a charge, particularly if the batteries are new or the pack is completely charged.

The other day, I discovered a novel use for my handheld, indoor bug zapper. I’ll tell you how it came about. I was in the garden, as usual, and my bug zapper was close at hand as the first squadron of mosquitoes was due. I had my book in one hand and the bug zapper on my knees, when my wife asked me to go to the shop for her. No problem, so, I set off on the five minute walk.

I was half-way there when I noticed that I had the indoor bug zapper in my hand, but it was not worth taking it home and beginning the journey again. Anyhow, on my return journey, I had my small bag of groceries in one hand and the indoor bug zapper in the other, when a local tyrant of a dog came running out of a garden directly for me. This has happened often and, although he has never bitten me yet, it is rather menacing. He stood there glaring at me with teeth bared and his ‘pack’ of assorted local pals came out to encircle me and join in.

I don’t really know what the best course of action is in this situation. I have tried holding my ground, but the intimidation just goes on and I have tried to keep walking, but he gets worryingly close by on occasion. This time, I unexpectedly lashed out with the indoor bug zapper and just caught him on the snout. Well, I’m not sure whether it hurt him, it did not seem to too much, but it gave him a very nasty shock in more ways than one, I can tell you! He leaped about four feet into the air as if he were on a pogo stick and then ran for all he was worth with all his pals following him. It was very gratifying after six months of aggravation from this dog.

Anyway, I don’t take my indoor bug zapper everywhere with me, but I will in future, if any further local dogs trouble me. I know it works a treat. I have seen that one since, but he keeps well away from me and doesn’t utter a peep. I think I would take my indoor bug zapper with me, if I were walking in an unfamiliar part of town or the park though.

Gas Powered Scooters.

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

Have you been thinking about getting a gas powerd two-wheeler? If you have, gas powered scooters are probably the best choice to start with. Many people who buygas powered scooters are worried about whether a gas powered scooter is street legal in traffic. This is not surprising ” every car driver has had the misfortune to get stuck behind a slow gas powerd scooter at some time or another and has wished that the scooter would get out of his way.

The speed of those gas powered scooters was practically non-existent. However, modern gas powered scooters can stay with the traffic. It may not be street legal to take a gas powerd scooter or any scooter on the highway, but they do have the capability to travel at high speeds, although the speed necessary to keep up with the flow of highway traffic may overwhelm a gas powered scooter. They are just not designed for sustained high speed travel.

Having said all this, gas powered scooters are almost like mini motorcycles. They can get up to a top speed of around 75 mph. That is not so, is it? However, it is ideal for shooting around town like they were designed for.

As far as fuel consumption goes, most gas powered scooters are able to achieve 65 mpg, which is really quite exceptional millage. And they usually have a fuel tank that can hold about three gallons of fuel giving a range of about 200 miles.

Put another way, if you used your gas powered scooter every day, every month you would probably have to fill the scooter up 3 to 4 times say, once a week, if that. If you compare that to a cars mileage per gallon, it is probably between a fifth and a quarter the cost, less if you are talking about big cars like SUVs. That is a huge saving with the way gas prices are bound to be headed.

Gas powered motor scooters are so very easy to operate too. Owners will not have a problem with changing gears as with a motorcycle, as they are usually automatic or semi-automatic these days. All the owner will have to do is: get on, switch on and twist the handle for gas. That is it and the scooter will smoothly take off in the direction you point it.

The maintenance of a gas powered scooter is pretty much like the maintenance of a motorcycle, car or truck. The motor scooters oil should be dumped responsibly and changed every 2,000 miles or so and a complete service should be had every 5,000 miles. This may vary slightly according to the manufacturers recommendations. It is recommended that one of the higher grade fuels be used for gas powered scooters.

It is of course your decision, but a general rule of thumb is that 87 octane fuel is cheaper than all the other choices because the lower the number the less refined is the petrol, so it is therefore not as clean as 91 or 93 octane fuel. 93 octane has an agent added to the fuel that will help protect the moving parts of the engine and help to keep it running smoothly over your gas powered scooters long lenth of service.

Last but not least, change the fuel filter often as this will help keep dirt and build-up from entering your engine thereby causing friction and check the spark plugs every 2000 to 3000 miles and, if necessary, readjust the gap with feeler gauges, if they need it. This should help preserve your gas powered scooter and keep it on the road for many years to come.

If you want a gas powered scooters or are considering buying one, you should take a look at our tipsbefore hand at: http://www.squidoo.com/gas-goped
